For the Patriot

Tribute of Respect

At a meeting of the Cherokee Lodge, No. 197, A. Y. M., the following preamble and resolutions were adopted:
WHEREAS, God in his Wisdom and for his glory has broken our tie of brotherhood by calling to the celestial Lodge above, our much esteemed friends and brothers, Lieut. P. A. Price, David Kallan and John S. Dalton, who died of typhoid fever, near Petersburg, all of the 45th Reg. N. C. troops,

Resolved, That with hearts filled with sadness, we will bow with humble submission to the decree of that Grand Master, who doeth all things well.

Resolved, That by their death Masonry has lost some of their brightest ornaments, and our country brave and patriotic soldiers, and upright and useful citizens, and we brothers whom we dearly loved.

Resolved, That we regard it as a patriotic duty to cherish and honor the memory of those brave brothers, who died for the liberty of their country.

Resolved, That we tender our heart-felt sympathy to the parents and kindred, who so deeply mourn the loss of our noble and gallant brothers.  And may he who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb administer the oil of consolation to their afflicted hearts.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the records of the Lodge, and a copy of the same sent to the Greensboro’ Patriot for publication.

Resolved, That we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.

                                                R. H. GROGAN, Com.

                                                N. H. DODD, Com.

                                                REECE PRICE, Com.
